Blood Brothers raise cancer awareness

The Blood Brothers are set to rock crowds at Carnival City on September 9, for the second consecutive year, and this time they are bringing new blood.

Some of South Africa’s top artists unite on stage for three hours, from 8pm, in the fight against cancer, by once more performing to raise awareness of the disease.

The Blood Brothers boast new blood this year, as Zolani Mahola of Freshlyground contributes her charisma and unique, fresh flavour to the concert.

The formidable Blood Brothers super group was formed last year, when the likes of Arno Carstens (Springbok Nude Girls); Francois van Coke (Fokofpolisiekar); Kobus de Kock Jnr (Black Cat Bones); George van der Spuy (Taxi Violence and Goodnight Wembley) and Albert Frost (Blues Broers) came together on stage.

This year’s concert will not see a performance by Carstens (Springbok Nude Girls), but the rest of the Blood Brothers will be back to perform the hits which brought them fame, as well as some international sounds which inspired them.

Backed by Hunter Kennedy (Fokofpolisiekar and Heuwels Fantasties) and Rian Zietsman (Taxi Violence and Beast) on guitar; Loedi van Reenen (Taxi Violence) on bass; Jason Hinch (Black Cat Bones and Boargazm) and Isaac Klawansky (Shadowclub) on drums, these artists banded together with the Vrede Foundation in the fight against cancer.

“We are honoured to host these South African super stars, who are uniting in music for a worthy cause,” said Michelle Smith, marketing manager of Carnival City.

“As host of the concert, Carnival City can contribute to raising awareness and funds to assist young people affected by cancer.”

A portion of the proceeds from ticket sales will again be donated to the Vrede Foundation, which aims to create cancer awareness in young people aged 15 to 29.

As an additional avenue to raise funds, The Blood Brothers recorded a war anthem, “People Gotta Know”, last year, which can be downloaded at https://youtu.be/60YmsxXYeaU
