Man kills wife, son and injures daughter

A man allegedly shot and killed his wife (35) and son (9), before injuring his 18-month-old daughter in Mogoba.

The incident took place on Monday morning (August 15).

He appeared in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday (August 17) and will reappear on August 24.

A case of two counts of murder and attempted murder was opened at the Putfontein Police Station.

The man reportedly also tried to shoot his 13-year-old son who managed to escape from the house and injured his 18-month-old daughter who is in a critical condition at the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital.

“After witnessing his father shooting his mother, the son rushed outside to call for help,” said Benoni Central Cluster spokesperson Capt Nomsa Sekele.

Sekele said the father allegedly ran after the son and tried to shoot him, but the son managed to escape.

“He then went back to the house and hit his daughter against the wall,” Sekele added.

Sekele also added that the man later allegedly tried to shoot himself but did not succeed.

According to Sekele, the firearm used in the murders is a licensed firearm belonging to the suspect.

The motive for the killing is unknown and the police are investigating.
