Video and Update: Pigs receive much-needed water

The community of Benoni has come to the aid of 206 pigs stranded on the N12 highway, by ensuring the animals stay hydrated.

Paul Raley, chairperson of the Crystal Park Community Policing Forum (CPF), said the greater Benoni CPF has provided a water tanker with 1 000l of water.

Another member of the CPF has pledged a large amount of 2l water bottles which will be used to give the pigs water through a trailer’s railings.

The truck transporting the animals broke down on the N12 highway, near the Putfontein Road bridge at 11am this morning (August 15).

Raley said there are two more water tankers on standby if more water is needed.

“Everybody has been super,” said co-chairperson of the Benoni SPCA, Shelley Owens.
