Noise is a concern

As a resident living close to the Sandpan, I was touched and inspired by your November 9 article about the community’s conservation awareness.

The Sandpan is known and appreciated for its bird life, bullfrog conservation and the caring residents living around it.

I am, therefore, very concerned about the increased off-road bike activity which has taken over the western bank (close to Boundary Road) over the past year.

This is accompanied by highly intrusive noise levels, which can clearly be heard indoors on the opposite side of the pan.

Even though this has been frequently reported to the City of Ekurhuleni, the situation seems to continue unabated.

One can only but guess what the impact of this is on the natural veld and bird life.

This is especially true for the small flock of flamingos that usually prefer to keep to that side of the pan.
