UPDATE: Community rallies to support fire victims

Your purchase of a boerewors roll, at the Rynfield Terrace Spar, tomorrow (July 16), will not only fill a space in your stomach, but a void in the lives of nine Crystal park residents.

A fire destroyed a home in Sigma Place on July 13.

Since the ordeal, the Benoni community has come to the aid of the home’s nine residents, who include four children.

“Since last night (Thursday) we have received 32 trolleys, already filled with items ranging from clothes to frames,” said CPF member Manogari Moonsammy.

“We have since given 11 trolleys filled with the goods to the family.”

The community have continued to drop off items at the Spar.

“Helping this family is close to my heart,” said one of the store managers, Adrian van der Merwe.

“One of the women, Loretta Manamela, who lives in the house that burned down, works at the Spar.”

The Spar is not the only business which stepped in to assist the family by giving them groceries and allowing the community to drop off items for the family at their premises.

Pick n Pay Oakfields also donated groceries to the family.

“It is important to give back to the community; they are the people who support you,” said co-owner of Pick n Pay Oakfields, Mario Vingos.

The Spar at the Terrace also braais boerewors every Saturday, and has decided to give their profits to the family for the next four Saturdays.

“The family will sell the boerewors rolls, which the store will provide,” said van der Merwe.

“From the money received, we will pay for the expenses of the boerewors and the rolls.

“The profit will be given to the family.”

The family will be selling boerewors rolls from 9am to 2pm, outside the Spar.

“I want to thank the community so, so much,” said Manamela.

“I do not know what to say, I am so thankful and I hope God blesses them for what they have done.”
