Dog with rope embedded in neck euthanised

The Benoni SPCA had to euthanise a dog that had a rope embedded in its neck.

The animal was seen running along Kerk Street, Putfontein on July 12.

“It had rope tied around its neck that had become embedded in the skin, and hot-water burns all over its body,” said Benoni SPCA manager Vicky Finnemore.

“The emaciated, terrified and broken-spirited” male boerboel-cross was caught by inspector Zama Mabena and taken to the organisation.

The manager said the rope could have been around the animal’s neck for “years”.

She believes the dog escaped and had boiling water poured over it by somebody who tried to ward it off.

“You can see where the water trickled down the body,” said Finnemore.

“Due to the extent of his wounds we had to euthanise and put him out of his misery.”

The SPCA encourages anyone to come forward who knows who the owner of the dog is, in order for the organisation to lay a charge of cruelty to animals.
