Needy fed throughout Ramadan

The Muslim holy month of Ramadan commenced on June 7, and the annual feeding scheme, run by the Bawa’s Tollie organisation, saw to it that thousands of tummies were fed in the Benoni area.

The feeding scheme, which caters for any person of any religion, takes place every Sunday at the Buzme Adab Hall, in Actonville, during the month of Ramadan.

“This is a month of great blessing for those who indulge themselves in fasting, charity and in the worship of the Almighty Allah,” said chairperson of the organisation, Fathima Bham.

The feeding scheme comes as a result of the guidance of director Abdul Gaffoor, Shaik, Bham and chairperson Anwar Ally, who humble themselves to the service of the community by preparing food for distribution.

“We have been distributing food for 42 years now,” said Shaik.

“Approximately 40 large pots of food (known as halim) are distributed weekly to about 2 000 people,” Bham said.

Bawa’s Tollie thanked their sponsors for their contribution in making this feeding scheme possible and wish all Muslims a blessed Ramadan.
