Boyes to leave Kathstan

After 24 years of service at Kathstan College, headmistress Cathy Boyes (57) will leave the school on June 24.

The Rynfield resident’s contract came to an end, after she sold the Benoni Small Farms-based school to AdvTech early last year.

Boyes started at the school in 1992 as an English teacher.

In 1994, she was promoted to deputy headmistress of the high school,

In 1997, she became headmistress of the high school, and in 2003, she took over the primary school, too.

She co-owned Kathstan College for 13 years.

Boyes told the City Times she will conclude her tenure with a sore heart, but thanked each and every pupil and teacher for touching her and her career.

“It’s terribly sad; it is an emotional time for me – very emotional,” said Boyes.

“When I sold the school I knew it was inevitable and now the time is here.

“While I look back at my years at Kathstan with lots of love and good memories, I am also looking forward to what lies ahead.”

Boyes will take a six-month sabbatical, after which she will start a new high school in Bredell.

She said the school will operate as it has been for years.
