Give them a lift

During my morning walk along Van Rooyen Street (bordering on the Benoni County Club), I noticed many domestic workers walking along this 2km stretch of road to get to work.

There are also just as many cars chasing up and down to get to the gated complex at the end of the road.

I walked past an elderly domestic worker with her slippers on and with many pairs of socks on to cushion her feet.

I know the dangers of offering hitchhikers a lift, but surely an elderly domestic worker or any domestic worker for that matter would be more than grateful for a one-minute drive compared to the 40 minutes it takes to walk that stretch of road?

In the afternoons it’s even worse as then it’s uphill.

A little compassion goes a long way.
