Mother, daughter assaulted in Putfontein

A mother and her daughter were tied up in their Putfontein home yesterday (April 14), with the daughter sustaining serious injuries after being assaulted.

Putfontein SAPS station commander Maj JC Makubo told the City Times this morning that three men went to a property on Lurie Road at around 12.15pm, saying they were there to purchase chickens.

“The daughter went and opened the gate and got three chickens,” said Makubo.

“While she was busy, she was assaulted with an instrument.”

Makubo said the mother and daughter were tied up with a computer cable in the home.

He could not confirm where on the property the assault took place.

The assailants demanded money and removed a wall safe and exited the house.

Makubo said the owner arrived as the men were fleeing, which resulted in the would-be robbers ditching the safe and a panga, which was found near the entrance to the plot.

Makubo said the home owner untied his wife and daughter in the house.

The mother was not seriously injured, while police say the daughter was in a serious but stable condition.

Nothing was stolen and no arrests have been made.

Police are investigating the possibility that one of the employees on the property is involved in the crime.

A case of attempted house robbery and assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm has been opened.

Anyone with information who can assist in the investigation is asked to call Det Sgt Moswarisheng Makofane on 082 332 4566.
