Must look great, but taste better

Ilse Prinsloo and Cobus Botes, who work at The Spectacle Corner, will be sure to judge your cake with more than just their eyes at this year’s Benoni City Times Mother’s Day Cake Bake Competition.

Botes believes he is a worthy judge because he is objective and open-minded.

“I enjoy cake that has thought put into it,” he said.

“Bring me something new, filled with creativity.”

Although he is open-minded, he said he is experienced in cake tasting.

“I come from an Afrikaans family and we are big on baking cakes,” he said.

Botes gave a few tips to win his heart with cake.

“Berries!” he said.

“I enjoy cakes with fruity flavours.”

Meanwhile, Prinsloo enjoys cakes that are moist inside.

“Bake a cake that is a winner in your books,” she said.

Prinsloo is a mother and has had her fair share of baking cakes for her children’s birthday parties.

“One of my friends baked on the M-net show, Kokkedoor,” Prinsloo said.

“So I have had my fair share of tasting cake, too.”

She advised bakers to be confident in their baking.

“Also, a cake needs to look great, but taste better than it looks,” she said.
