EMPD arrest 58 over Easter weekend

The EMPD arrested 58 people for drunken driving, speeding, being in possession of illegal drugs, assault and selling liquor without a licence over the Easter weekend.

This operation was conducted from March 24 to 27, in Actonville, Benoni, the Bromberg precinct, Etwatwa, Daveyton and Putfontein.

EMPD spokesperson, Lieut-Col Wilfred Kgasago said three suspects were arrested for being in possession of narcotics and one for assault in Bromberg.

“Another man was arrested for selling liquor without a licence and 442 bottles of beer were confiscated,” said Kgasago.

On March 24, eight drivers were arrested for driving over the speed limit and 421 drivers fined.

Kgasago added that on Friday (March 25), four men were arrested for setting alight two houses and a vehicle in Chis Hani, Daveyton.

Drunk driving arrests:

  •  Actoville: three.
  •  Benoni and Putfointein: 16.
  •  Bromberg: six.
  •  Etwatwa: 15.
  •  Daveyton: one.

All suspects were detained at the Benoni Police Station.
