Easter treat for Benonians

On Easter Sunday, families were welcomed to the market on Russel Street. Parents browsed through the stalls, while their children joined an Easter egg hunt.

The hunt was hosted by Sticky Fingers stall owner Mandy Williams, who hid miniature coloured flags around the market.

“Each child paid R10 and collected five different coloured flags, which were hidden,” Williams said.

“Once these were found, they collected a goody bag filled with Easter eggs and an activity sheet.”

The market, which has been successfully run for two years by Lemongrass Restaurant and Tajine Moroccan Restaurant owner Ivonne Taylor, aims to provide an unforgettable experience for consumers.

“I started the market because Lemongrass had a fire,” said Taylor.

“My kitchen staff needed an income during the time of rebuilding the cuisine, so the market became their source of income.”

The market was established two years ago, with only four stalls.

It has since grown to more than 40 stalls.

The stalls vary in terms of food and products, including handmade bags, jewellery, fudge and wine, to name a few.

Among the many stalls, Taylor allows charities like Kids Haven and the Greater Benoni Child Welfare Society to use her stalls free of charge, to sell their products.
