Teen is eager to sign record deal

Life has been a bit more lenient towards a 16-year-old, by giving her another chance at what should have been a once in a lifetime opportunity.

And all she needs is Benoni’s support to take full advantage of this opportunity.

Chanél Loock, who is a pupil at BenHale Academy in Rynfield, has had a talent for singing since she was a toddler.

She entered the South African Championship of Performing Arts in 2005, at the tender age of six, and was granted the opportunity to showcase her talent in Los Angeles.

Unfortunately, due to financial constraints, the young star had to lock this dream in her heart.

But, 11 years later, she has been granted the opportunity to join the SA Championship again.

“Many people comment on my voice, saying that it is extraordinary,” Loock said.

“According to them, it is not the general expectancy for my age.”

However, her financial situation remains the same if she is again granted the opportunity to go abroad.

“It is important to me to go to Los Angeles, because I want to sign a deal with a Hollywood record company,” she said.

“These people are invited to these championships, so this is my chance to show my talent to them.”

This is why Loock is requesting that the public sponsor her for her future.

“I will be representing Gauteng in Rustenburg, at the Civic Centre, from April 1 to 10, at the SA Championships,” she said.

Although she was unable to showcase her talent in Los Angeles when she was younger, she has never lost her passion for singing and has competed in various local competitions.

The SA Championships of Performing Arts is the auditions for Team SA.

If competitors excel in the auditions they are placed in Team SA, where they are trained and prepared for the World Championships of Performing Arts, which take place in Los Angeles later this year.

“Last year there were 2 500 people who competed,” she said.

These people can showcase any talent, including modelling, dancing, singing and acting.”

Loock also dreams of helping children like her, who enjoy performing.

“After school, I want to open a performing arts school at which children can matriculate with the basic requirements, but focus on their art,” she said.
