Different flavours, blended taste

Good food, great taste and fantastic appeal is the way to bake an unforgettable cake for this year’s Benoni City Times Mother’s Day Cake Bake Competition, said our next judge, Wendy Bernhardt.

Bernhardt is the proud owner of La Maison Home Décor, at the Northmead Square Shopping Centre.

“I am passionate about creativity and innovation,” Bernhardt said.

“I like to transform simple things into something that has great appeal.”

What makes Bernhardt a worthy judge is that she is from the community and wants to give back to the community.

“I like to support those who participate and invest their time in community projects,” she said.

In her approach to judging, she will look for an elegant, presentable and good-tasting cake.

“There is nothing wrong with simple, it just needs to be unique,” she said.

Benhardt described a good taste as one with a variety of flavours blended into one.

And, if you need some tips to win her heart, she shared two.

“I enjoy encouraging people to do the best they can,” she said.

“I look for cakes which have a firm texture and are not over-sweetened.

“There is nothing wrong with having a sweet-tasting cake, but it must not be so sweet that a person feels sick while eating it, so they are forced to stop.”

The Benoni City Times annual Mother’s Day Cake Bake Competition will take place on May 5, at Cherrylane Restaurant, situated on 14th Avenue, Northmead.
