Let’s talk cake

A cake needs to look as good as it tastes, said one of the Benoni City Times Mother’s Day Cake Bake Competition judges, Stelios Coutsides.

Coutsides works for Chas Everitt as a professional estate agent.

If you are looking for a judge who will give constructive criticism on your cake, he is the man.

“I am a very positive person,” he added.

“I do my best to give the best possible service to people, adding that bit of an extra smile and honesty.”

What makes Coutsides a reliable judge is his appreciation of appearance and taste.

“What I look for in judging is taste,” he said.

“As people eat with their eyes, I feel the appearance should be simple, but eye-catching.”

If contestants want a tip for winning his heart, they should be unique.

“I like simplicity, but with a bit of a twist,” he added.

“People who work with food, must have a love for it.”

The Benoni City Times’s annual Mother’s Day Cake Bake competition will take place on May 5, at Cherrylane Restaurant, on 14th Avenue, Northmead.

Entrants must arrive at the restaurant, at 7.30am.

All items entered will be donated to the elderly or people in need.

Prizes are up for grabs.
