Water tankers arrive in dry suburbs

Water tankers were made available in Cloverdene and Crystal Park when the suburbs’ water supply was still off at 11.30am on Friday (March 4).

EMM said three roving water tankers were made available at the following points:

  •  Spar in Crystal Park;
  •  Crystal Park Police Station;
  •  Crystal Park Clinic.

The areas were left dry while repair work was done on a main supply pipe in Van Ryn Small Holdings.
Work on the pipe started at around 8pm on March 3 and was initially expected to be finished by midnight.
“Ekurhuleni technicians have been working tirelessly overnight, carrying out repairs on the 800mm main water supply pipe in Fifth (Road) in (Van Ryn Small Holdings),” said EMM spokesperson Themba Gadebe.
“However, once the pipe was fully uncovered it was found that it had multiple cracks and that the entire pipe would have to be replaced.”
At the time of publication, EMM could not confirm when the repairs were expected to be finished.
At 11.20am on March 4, Clr Stefanie Kruger (Ward 24) said the pipe arrived on site earlier in the morning.
The pipe was temporarily fixed using a clamp after it burst early last week, during which time much of the surrounding area was without a water supply.
“The EMM wishes to apologise for the inconvenience caused to its customers in Cloverdene and Crystal Park,” said Gadebe.
“Consumers are reminded to keep all taps closed for the duration of the interruption and they will be kept abreast of any developments pertaining to this interruption.”
