There is help for unplanned pregnancy

Are you pregnant and feeling alone?

Life Choices Pregnancy Crisis Centre will help you.

The NPO is need of a full-time counsellor and funding to keep operating.

Lauren Jee runs the NPO at the Covenant Life Centre, on Webb Street, Northmead.

“We are a counselling centre for women who find themselves in unplanned pregnancy,” said Jee.

“We give them different options to abortion, although it is one of the options we inform them of when they come in for consultation.”

The centre is visited mostly by women between 14 and 25 years of age.

Jee said the youngest girl she counselled was nine years old.

“In such cases, the girl might have been raped or could have been a victim of incest,” she said.

“But, children become sexually active at a very young age.”

”As the centre we don’t force women to have abortions; 90 per cent of them do keep their babies after receiving counselling.

”For some girls, their situations are difficult and they can’t keep the child, we then offer them post abortion counselling.”

The centre offers information on:

  •  adoption
  •  abortion
  •  parenting
  •  free pregnancy testing
  •  free unplanned pregnancy counselling
  •  practical help

According to Jee, this year, the centre wants to create more awareness in Benoni, give more talks in schools, churches or even in companies, and form a relationship with doctors and hospitals.

The centre would welcome donations of toiletries for moms and babies, as well as clothes and nappies of all sizes.

Jee said she thanks everyone who has supported the centre, as they have made a difference.

“We really appreciate it,” she added
