New management promises to feed animals at Bunny Park

The Bunny Park Animals 911 Group will be conducting their last feed on Sunday, November 8.

Tania Forrest-Smith, Bunny Park Animals 911 member, said the decision was taken following an emergency meeting held this morning (November 6).

The meeting included Victor Nesengani, divisional head of Parks and Cemeteries.

“We expressed our concern on the lack of food, and we noticed that the animals were only being fed on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday – when we fed them,” said Forrest-Smith.

She said when the group arrived on Thursday (November 5), they noticed there was no food for the animals.

And an emergency feeding was organised this morning (November 6).

“Victor assured us that new management will start tomorrow (November 7), and the animals will be fed on a daily basis,” she said.

Forrest-Smith encourages the public to keep delivering donations to Re/Max Randgro.

“Re/Max will continue collecting donations and they will be delivered to the park.

“People need to know that this is a community issue and they should keep helping fed the animals,” said Forrest-Smith.

Re/Max has proposed that a container be obtained, where a freezer will be kept for perishable food.

The large container will be kept at the Bunny Park.

Forrest-Smith said the group believes that things will change at the Bunny Park.

“We will do continuous visits and check on the animals and see if the promises where kept,” she said.

Ekurhuleni spokesperson, Themba Gadebe, said food has always been available for the animals 24/7.
