Murder trial ends with 18-year prison sentence

Mbulula Mbasa was found guilty of murder and sentenced to 18 years imprisonment for stabbing a person to death, last year.

On December 26, 2014, a case of murder was opened at the Crystal Park Police Station.

The victim, aged 31, was stabbed with a knife in Chief Albert Luthuli Park.

“The SAPS arrested a 32-year-old man on the same day in connection with the murder,” said Tryna Maritz, acting communications officer for the Crystal Park SAPS.

“The suspect appeared in court on December 29.”

Maritz said the case was remanded several times, during which time the suspect remained in custody.

After he was found guilty of murder, on October 7, a date was set for sentencing and, on October 9, Mbasa was sentenced to 18 years imprisonment.

He will serve his sentence in Modderbee Prison.
