Two die, eight injured in bakkie accident
Two men died and nine other people were injured after a bakkie driver lost control of the vehicle this evening (October 13).
The accident happened on Main Reef Road, between Springs and Benoni.
ER24 spokesperson Chitra Bodasing said the occupants of the vehicle were ejected from the bakkie in the accident.
”ER24 paramedics and other services arrived on scene and found the patients spread across the field,” said Bodasing.
”Upon assessment, paramedics found that one man, believed to be in his 20s, had sustained multiple severe injuries.
”Sadly, despite all efforts by paramedics, the man succumbed to his injuries.”
Bodasing said eight other patients sustained minor to moderate injuries.
A second man died in the Sunshine Hospital.
The patients were treated and transported to Sunshine Hospital for further medical care.
The exact cause of the incident is unknown.
Meanwhile, a woman in her 70s died in an accident in Western Extension today.
In a separate accident, a car came to a standstill on an island on Pretoria Road.
