Local artists shine in competition
The 28th annual Thami Mnyele Fine Arts Awards saw a Benoni resident and former Hoërskool Hans Moore pupil walk away with prizes.
Over 200 art works were entered into the competition, which was hosted by the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality.
The prize-giving ceremony was held at the Coen Scholtz Recreation Centre, Kempton Park, on September 26
Bapsfontein resident Jeanne Breedt won the Ekurhuleni Prize and walked away with R30 000 for her mixed media artwork, “Jenny and the fly-shuttle: the motherboard”.
Rourke Lyte-Mason, a former Hoërskool Hans Moore pupil and Brakpan resident, won the Painting Merit Award for his oil on canvas art, “Familiar Unfair”.
Elaine Marx, of Art Alive Art School, taught Lyte-Mason art for four years at her Northmead-based school.
Lyte-Mason won R7 500 for his efforts.
