SPCA staff members suspended following allegations

The Benoni SPCA management committee has released a preliminary statement on Facebook, confirming the suspension of two staff members, following unconfirmed allegations.

“We can assure you that the management committee takes animal abuse very seriously and will not permit any animal to suffer in our care,” the statement read.

“We can confirm that certain allegations are true, however, we cannot give more information at this stage as two of our staff members, the manager and inspector, are on suspension pending disciplinary proceedings.

“We will provide feedback as soon as we can, but please rest assured that we do not take matters like these lightly.”

Diane Wooldridge, vice-chairwoman of the Benoni SPCA, said Adele Makings (branch manager) and Renee Rossolimos (inspector) were suspended.

The nature of the allegations were unclear at the time of publishing.

Woolridge said the NSPCA would release a press statement regarding the situation, but could not confirm when.
