Trimming of trees — it’s a problem making contact

Denise Heatlie writes by email:

It is was with interest that I read the article about contacting the municipality to cut or trim trees.

I have been trying to make contact with the Parks Department since June, to trim the tipuana trees that grow on municipal property outside my house, in Ward Street, Western Extension.

The call centre provided a telephone number but, at no time was I able to get through, as the line was continuously engaged.

I sent an email requesting assistance from the municipality to trim the trees — no reply to date!

These trees overhang the boundary walls, by a long way, of houses in Ward Street.

They are also a danger to property. Some time ago a branch fell onto our neighbour’s car parked in the street.

My particular problem is that the trees emit a sticky substance which is coating everything that is beneath them: paving, garden plants, garden furniture, water feature and cars parked on the pavement.

This substance adheres to the soles of shoes, to the paws of pets, which is a health hazard as they lick their paws when cleaning themselves, it is also in the water they drink from the water feature.

The other problems from these trees is the thousands of seed pods that fall into the garden area, and the mess from hadeda birds that nest at night on the overhanging branches, which falls onto the paving, water feature and garden furniture.

The mess is intolerable on a daily basis.

Will a representative from the parks department please contact me as I get nowhere in trying to make contact.

I would be most grateful to have this problem solved.

When phoning the contact number given in the BCT, a message is given that the number does not exist.

The correct number is 0860 543000.
