EMPD halts illegal land invasion

EMPD Public Order Policing members halted an attempted land invasion, by members of the public, in Daveyton, on Tuesday, August 11.

The land lies between Daveyton and the Zenele Informal settlement.

According to Wilfred Kgasago, EMPD spokesperson, the attempted land grabbing was stopped and one person, who had already erected a shack, was forced to remove it.

“On responding to the call, the EMPD acting director specialised services approached the leadership of the land invaders and were able to convince them that what they were doing was illegal,” said Kgasago.

Those attempting to invade the land were warned that, if they continued, police would be brought in to arrest them and confiscate their building material.

“The land invaders reluctantly stopped the illegal action and dispersed peacefully,” said Kgasago.

The EMPD will monitor the area to ensure that no illegal structures are put up on the open land.
