Prinsloo shoots for glory

Benoni Small Farms resident Chelize Prinsloo led her team, The Predators, to third place in the annual provincial Airsoft tournament, recently.

The tournament, titled the Best of the Best, was held at Timeline Airsoft, Benoni Small Farms, and included teams from across Gauteng.

Prinsloo is the only female captain whose team reached the top three in the history of the Best of the Best tournament.

Her vice-captain, Chantal Wessels, led a branch-off team, Predators, as The Predators had to be split due to size.

The tournament was won by Legion, with Random Violence coming in at second place.

Airsoft is similar to paintball, but uses varied weights of ball bearing (BB) bullets, and guns are often made to replicate real firearms.

“Airsoft requires a great deal of responsibility, because you could be arrested or even shot at, if you are seen in public with these replicas,” said Prinsloo.

The sport originated in Japan and was quickly adopted in the US as an alternative to paintball.

Airsoft has a relatively small following of people, opposed to the millions who play paintball, mostly due to the fact that paintball is more user-friendly, as Airsoft ammunition is the more dangerous of the two.
