Royal flush

Few very people can say they have taken a selfie with royalty in a bathroom.

Goedeburg resident Roland Patrick did exactly that when he took a photograph with His Serene Highness (HSH) Prince Albert II of Monaco, in the bathroom at McGinty’s Northmead Square, on Monday afternoon.

“I went into the toilet and he was standing next to me at the urinal,” said Patrick.

“I said welcome to Benoni, your royal highness.”

Patrick was surprised by the prince’s warm reception.

“I asked if I could take a selfie and he said: ‘I have never had one in a toilet before’.”

The prince asked to first wash his hands.

Patrick said he was unable to converse with the prince inside the restaurant, due to the security presence.

The Benoni resident said he was pleased at the prince’s charm and not to have been fobbed off.
