‘Dragging’ cops’ trial starts

The trial of the nine Daveyton policemen accused of killing taxi driver and Mozambican national Mido Macia, started today (July 28), in the North Gauteng High Court.

The trial was postponed three times in the past 20 months, due to pending investigations and the accused policemen changing their legal team.

The trial was set to start on Monday (July 27), in the Delmas High Court, but the court and date were changed on the day.

The policemen are facing murder charges after they allegedly handcuffed Macia to the back of a police van and dragged him several metres, before leaving him to die in police custody, on February 26, 2013.
