Teenager shot dead, four others injured

Police have launched a manhunt for four men responsible four injuring four people and fatally shooting a teenager in Kingsway yesterday afternoon (July 24).

Benoni SAPS cluster spokesperson Sgt Constance Moalusi said the men entered a home in Kingsway and demanded drugs from a 50-year-old woman who resides in the house.

“They left her outside and heard children (three women and two males) in a room,” said Moalusi.

“Minutes later the woman heard gun shots being fired.

“The suspects then fled the scene.”

A 15-year-old girl was fatally shot.

A girl (16) was shot in the knee, a boy (16) was burnt with boiling water while a boy (17) and woman (24) were assaulted with a firearm.

Police believe the incident in linked to illegal mining as they confiscated equipment used to conduct illegal mining at the home where the crime occurred.

Benoni SAPS acting station commander Col Martin van Nieuwenhuizen said police believe the 50-year-old woman is involved in illegal mining.

A case of murder, attempted murder and assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm has been opened at the Benoni Police Station.
