Developers discover skull in Crystal Park

Building developers in Crystal Park unearthed what is believed to be a human skull today (July 23).

Crystal Park SAPS media liaison officer Tryna Maritz said developers came across the skull on a piece of land earmarked for a housing development.

The discovery was made off Longmore Drive, at a depth of about 1.5m.

“Police were called to scene and they called the forensics from the reconstruction of skeletons department,” said Maritz.

“They came out and said it appears to be an old grave.”

Maritz said the forensics team are 90 per cent sure it is the skull of a human.

It is not clear whether there is an entire skeleton buried.

The discovery is no longer being handled as a crime scene.

Developers have been stopped from operating within a 20m radius of the site.

It is unclear whether there are more skeletons in the area.

An archaeologist will visit the site on July 24 to investigate the matter.
