Local artists organise Winter Art Exhibition

The annual Winter Art Exhibition ran from June 30 to July 5 at Lakeside Mall in the CBD.

The exhibition, now in its eighth year, is held by Artists Working Together (AWT), a Benoni based art club.

The club consists of several artists who unite to market themselves, independent from major art galleries.

Helené du Preez, from Boksburg, is one of the artists whose work was on exhibit. “We’re actually all professional artists,” she said. “Here we are bringing unique art to the people, instead of them having to go find it.”

Many of the artists can also be found on the monthly Benoni Art Route or exhibit their work independently.

“We are happy with the attention the exhibition drew and the positive feedback,” said Larry Mervitz, chairwoman of AWT.

The work of Mervitz, Katinka Meiring, Elaine Marx, Jacqueline Bekker, Des Price, Paul Botes, Danie Strydom, Babs Putar and Marlene McCulloch were also displayed at the exhibition.
