Too much water wastage for irate resident

Water is a commodity that should not be wasted.

These are the words of Phakane Mokou, who lives on the corner of Weaver Avenue and Heron Street, MacKenzie Park.

Mokou awakened to a large amount of water flowing past his pavement on Sunday (June 28).

He immediately reported the leak to the Ekurhuleni emergency call centre number.

It took the metro more than 30 hours to fix the leak.

“Water is a precious resource, every drop counts,” said Mokou.

The leak was repaired on Tuesday (June 30).

Mokou said the municipality is ineffective and appears to work only when it suits them.

“I even called the councillor to come and fix this matter, but, after calling him a several times, my calls were ignored,” he added.

“This water is purified and I know it takes a lot of time to be purified.”

Ekurhuleni spokesperson Themba Gadebe said the municipality attends to water leaks within 48 hours, however, on average, they are responded to within 24 hours.
