Armed men hold up five business employees

Police have yet to make an arrest after three armed men held up five people at a Golden Drive business last night (June 9).

Benoni SAPS spokesperson Lieut Nomsa Sekele said the gunmen entered the premises of Mirren, a pharmaceutical company, at around 6.30pm.

“The complainant was on duty when she was approached by three men,” said Sekele.

“The men pointed firearms at the employees and told them to keep quiet and cooperate.”

A female employee was escorted by one of the gunmen to the logistics room, while her colleagues were monitored by the remaining gunmen.

When they arrived in the room, the gunman noticed a male employee.

He was ordered to handover three bags of Ephedrine – a powder used as an appetite suppressant and to treat hypotension, to name a few uses.

The robbers made off with the employees’ cellphones and a VW Golf Seven, belonging to one of the victims.

The abandoned car was later recovered on Hlakwana Street, in Daveyton.

Police are not sure how the robbers gained access onto the property.

Sekele said the men were clothed in balaclavas and white jackets, which had the Local Criminal Record Centre (LCRC) abbreviation embodied on the back.

A case of business robbery has been opened.
