From Benoni Indians to Minnesota Twins

With players from Benoni Northerns Indians Ball Club receiving recognition at the club’s prizegiving, on Saturday, March 28, it was quite fitting that one of their own, Rowan Ebersohn, was requested to hand out awards to the achievers.

The 18-year-old, who started playing baseball for the club at the age of five, will be leaving South African shores on Monday, April 6, to commence a seven-year-deal with the Minnesota Twins, in the USA.

When asked what he is expecting upon arrival in the States Ebersohn said: “It is all going to happen so fast.

“As I get there the club will put me straight into my room, kit me out and within the next two days we start playing games.

“Straight into action, straight into the deep end, but I am ready.

“I have been keeping healthy and keeping my skills up by regularly batting, running and fielding.”

Despite his optimism and tangible positivity, the former Benoni High School pupil admitted that there are still some nerves.

“There is always going to be pressure, but I am just really excited to get there and just do it; it has been a long time coming,” he added.
