SAPS raid suspected Crystal Park drug lab

Two people were arrested in Crystal Park this morning for being in possession of R1-million worth of chemicals.

Police suspect the substances are used for manufacturing the drug tik (methamphetamine).

Provincial SAPS spokesperson Capt Tsekiso Mofokeng said the Gauteng Flying Squad swooped on the Orchard Street property at around 11am.

“Community members tipped the Gauteng Flying Squad off and an operation was organised for us to hit the place,” said Mofokeng.

On arrival at the property, police arrested a 27-year-old woman, who later directed police to a 34-year-old man in the house.

Mofokeng said there is evidence to suggest drugs were manufactured in the house, but the police are still busy with their investigation.

Both suspects have been charged with the possession of chemicals suspected to be used in the manufacturing of drugs.

Mofokeng said more charges should be added at a later stage.

The suspects are expected to appear in the Benoni Magistrates Court soon.

Police are investigating the case, and it is unclear at this stage who the owners of the house are.

No fully processed drugs were found in the house.
