Supporting World Trauma Day

In honour of World Trauma Day, the Netcare Linmed Hospital accident and emergency unit staff shared their knowledge of CPR on Friday, October 17.

Visitors were treated to a free blood pressure and sugar level check-ups.

The Benoni City Times staff were also educated on CPR and how to administer it by Kerry Henderson, life support instructor and intermediate life support practitioner.

She explained that when one performs CPR they should do the following:

* Approach the victim and check for safety

* Call for emergency services help

* Assess the patient to see if they are breathing or moving

* Then start CPR, by placing both hands on the victim’s chest and compressing repeatedly in order to revive the patient.

Alan Stroud, trauma unit manager at Linmed Hospital, demonstrated the use of a Burnshield (hydrogel product).

The shield is placed on the burnt area and provides urgently needed protection when someone is accidentally burnt.
