ATM fraudster and robbery suspect nabbed

He was arrested at a roadblock in Crystal Park

The EMPD arrested a man suspected of committing ATM fraud, at a roadside checkpoint, conducted on June 17.

EMPD spokesman Wilfred Kgasago said the man was arrested at around 12.30pm, in Combrink Street, near Noorderlig School.

“He was a wanted ATM fraudster and robber,” said Kgasago.

The suspect was driving a vehicle which had been reported as being used by persons defrauding innocent persons at ATMs in Ekurhuleni.

Kgasago said that the vehicle, a maroon Opel Corsa, was also found to have an expired licence.

“The driver lied that he had already renewed the licence, but forgot to display it on the vehicle,” said Kgasago.

“On running the registration of the vehicle, the Metro Police discovered that the licence had not been renewed and that the car was reported to have been used in a ATM fraud and robbery in Thokoza.”

The 30-year-old man was taken to the Crystal Park Police Station, where arrangements were made with the Thokoza police detectives to pick him up so he could answer to charges as reflected against the vehicle registration.
