Mia does it again

Lakefield resident Fadeen Mia (29) was the second runner-up at the 2013 Mr India South Africa pageant.

“It is truly an honour to be part of the top three; the exposure is so much more when you hold such a title,” he said.

“There was a moment during the competition where I felt that I’d win.

“There were mixed feelings during the announcements, but in the end I am truly blessed to have made it this far.”

The annual competition, which is open to all South African men between the ages of 16 and 30, was held at Sibaya Casino, in Durban, on December 21, last year.

The competition aims to promote awareness of the Indian arts and culture.

“I enquired about the event at the beginning of 2013, then received a call from the Mr India South Africa hosts before it kicked off, to ask if I would enter,’ he said.

According to Mia, the hardest part of the entire competition for him was the diet and gym prep building up to the event.

“I was practically living off plain chicken and veggies while going to the gym twice a day,” he said.

“The entire competition was all hard work and focus, but it was all worth it in the end.”

Last year was a very good one for Mia; he was a Bar One Manhunt finalist, worked on the set of Hollywood feature film Chappie and was part of a few advertisements.

“Yes, it was a good year, and that means I need to lift the bar even higher and make 2014 even better,” he added. “Nothing is impossible and no matter who you are, or where you come from, if you want something badly enough and if you work hard enough for it, it can truly be achieved.”

Mia added that he is proof of that statement.

“I would like to thank everyone who is close to me, all my family and friends; they are the ones who always support you, no matter what, and are the ones that are most affected by the late nights and busy days when pushing your dreams forward.”
