Hyundai Ioniq 6 wins world car title
The fact that electric cars are now winning international vehicle awards, illustrates how far technology has come. The Hyundai Ioniq 6 demonstrates this.
Hyundai’s Ioniq 6 Electrified Streamliner won the World Car of the Year, World Electric Vehicle and World Car Design of the Year prizes.
A hundred motoring journalists from 32 countries served as jury members for this prestigious event.
The announcement was made at the New York International Auto Show. This is Hyundai’s second straight triple honours at the World Car Awards.
“We are thrilled to receive this prestigious honour two years in a row, which recognises the tremendous talents and unrelenting efforts of everyone at Hyundai Motor Company to bring EVs like Ioniq 6 to the market,” said Jaehoon Chang, president and CEO of the Hyundai Motor Company.
“This honour reinforces our commitment to be a global leader in vehicle electrification and will serve to embolden our efforts as a smart mobility solutions provider.”
The Ioniq 6 is the second model in Hyundai’s dedicated all-electric Ioniq brand range. It takes full advantage of bespoke global electric modular platform architecture to offer 800V, ultra-fast charging capabilities for a 10%-to-80% charge in just 18 minutes and a spacious interior.
The World Car Awards jury also named SangYup Lee as the 2023 World Car Person of the Year for his vital contribution to the Ioniq 6 development and design.
It is important to note that the Ioniq 6 also achieved a five-star safety rating and best in class selection for the large family car category in the European New Car Assessment Programme.
