Disable learners empowered

Massmart creates opportunities for disabled communities.

The disabled learners of Ithembelihle LSEN School, Germiston, benefited from the Work Readiness Event, which kicked off on August 12.

While the benefits of hiring persons with disabilities may be widely acknowledged, demystifying, and highlighting the largely marginalised disability sector as well as the sourcing and accessing of relevant skills within this sector remains a challenge.

Adhering to Covid-19 protocols, 50 Grade 11 and 12 learners heard from industry experts about how to prepare for life beyond school.

Topics included how to handle a job interview, drafting a winning CV and accessing university for students with disabilities.

“We are looking for people just like you. People who are talented and capable of creating a prosperous future for themselves, and wanting to join a dynamic organisation like Massmart,” she said.

“We have programmes for persons with disabilities that help them flourish and become their best selves. Massmart is an amazing organisation to work for. Inclusion is at the core of what we do,” she said.
