Angela reinvents herself

The Style will reopen based on a new format, rent a chair system, which will allow hairdressers the opportunity to be self-employed and take charge of their lives, to work in a stress free environment and enjoy their creativity and their clients.

With resilience, years of experience and the support of loyal community members and clients, The Style Unisex will emerge from the challenges of Covid-19 with style, innovation, mettle and a vision for the future.
Founder Angela Pompa is excited about the salon’s reinvention.
According to Angela, recent events have caused us all to stop, take a good look at ourselves, and evaluate what is most important in life.

“I have and I am opening The Style in a new way,” she announced.

A community story featuring her approach to dealing with the current crisis was scheduled for published in Bedfordview and Edenvale News on June 10, but a headline mistake created the impression that The Style Unisex will be closing down. Bedfordview and Edenvale News apologises for this mistake.

Angela, ever the energetic go-getter, was graciously willing to help the publication in rectifying the public record with her feel-good story.
Her positivity, passion for her business and love for the people of this community, shine through in all that she does.
She eagerly awaits the moment when The Style Unisex will be allowed to resume adding joy to peoples’ lives.

The salon, located in the CBD of Bedfordview, is synonymous with the area after having operated for 38 years.
“We are very much part of the Bedfordview community. We are humbled and honoured to be part of a community that is proactively contributing to making it a better place,” she said.

The Style will reopen on a new format. The rent a chair system will allow hairdressers the opportunity to be self-employed and take charge of their lives, all the while working in a stress-free environment to enjoy expressing their creativity.

To Angela, being on-trend, ensuring that her team is fully qualified and continuously educated on the latest trends, is part of her success recipe that will also form part of her new endeavour.

“We are passionate and we are very creative, but most all we strive to give all our clients the best hair services they need,” she said. This includes a professional skin clinic, nail bar and other beauty services.

During these difficult times and those that lie ahead, Angela hopes to once again be an abode where her clients can relax.
“We have a very homely atmosphere. It is a place where all our clients love to visit and spend time to relax while they are pampered. We want them to leave feeling and looking good.
“This is our gift that we love to give to people – to make them feel special.”

South Africa’s lockdown regulations have placed particular strain on the hair and beauty industry.
Just last week, a Pretoria High Court finding stated that the effect of the rules on members of these industries have been unjustifiably devastating.
Many salons have had to close their doors after not been allowed to operate for more than two months.

“We waited in anticipation when Level 3 was announced. We were soul destroyed when we still could not operate,” she said, stressing the inherent requirements of constant sanitisation that come with the services she offers.

According to Angela, life would have been much easier if they had been allowed to operate by now.
“Yes, the lockdown has affected our business. My partner, Carolyn Lee, and myself have realised that we can no longer operate our business as before, ever again,” she acknowledged.
But instead of dwelling on the difficulty of the present, Angela is now focused on being able to make a positive difference in the lives of her clients once the reinvented salon reopens.

“I speak out for all my peers in hairdressing and beauty, we are an essential commodity, we are needed, and we are healers in many ways. We must move forward and fight for our right to make a decent living.

“We provide the ultimate experience of making people feel and look beautiful. This, in turn, psychologically makes people happy to face life, literally,” she said.
