Hyundai unveiled new concept electric vehicle

Unveiled via a video presentation, the Hyundai Prophecy is a fully electric concept vehicle incorporating Hyundai’s latest design philosophy, Sensuous Sportiness.

Drawing inspiration from the Hyundai 45 concept vehicle, the Prophecy also sees the inclusion of a long wheelbase with short overhangs. The aerodynamic design and EV architecture define the exterior styling and interior space and functionality. “We have brought to life yet another icon that establishes a new standard for the EV segment as well as pushing Hyundai’s design vision to even broader horizons. A part of that expansion is what we call Optimistic Futurism, a design concept embodied by ‘Prophecy’. With Optimistic Futurism, our aim is to forge an emotional connection between humans and automobiles,” SangYup Lee, Head of Hyundai Global Design Centre.

As part of Hyundai’s Sensuous Sportiness design philosophy, the Prophecy features voluptuous sides defined by a single minimalist curve extending from the front to the rear of the vehicle. The clean design provides for better aerodynamics which is extremely important for electric vehicles. At the rear is an integrated rear spoiler which adds to the downforce when the vehicle is at speed. Transparent acrylic material is incorporated in the spoiler, headlamp and in the camera monitoring system (CMS) to allow for the view of functional components inside.

Also featuring on the Prophecy is pixel lamp lights, first seen on the Hyundai 4 concept. This technology will be incorporated on the headlamps, taillamps and spoiler and will feature on all future Hyundai models as a signature design element.

Embracing the future of autonomous driving technology, Hyundai has instead of a steering wheel fitted two joysticks. This also makes the driver’s position more comfortable as one joystick is fitted to the centre console and the other on the door trim. The joysticks will also provide access to a variety of vehicle functions via the integrated buttons. When the car is set to Relax mode, the passengers have almost no visual obstacles as the seats move into a comfortable reclined position. The dashboard also swivels to give the passengers a better view of the screens and. Eco-friendly design and materials have been implemented on the interior and passengers also benefit from a continuous flow of clean air from the external intakes on the bottom of the side doors.
