Kensington gets ready for annual Spring Fair

This year heralds the 28th anniversary of the Spring Fair.

One of Kensington’s most iconic events, the Kensington Spring Fair, started as a community event to welcome spring in 1989.

Over the years it has become an annual Kensington attraction and tradition.

This year will be the 28th anniversary of the Spring Fair.

On September 8, Rhodes Park will once again come alive to the sound of music when the Jeppe Pipe Band opens the event.

This will be the start of a day filled with music and entertainment for the whole family, and a day in the year’s calendar where community comes together as one.

The focus of the Spring Fair this year is to stage an event that showcases talented Kensington residents, making it “for Kensington by Kensington”.

It promises to be among the best KRRA has hosted over the years.

Transport will be available within the park to assist the elderly and those unable to walk long distances.

Those who wish to relax and enjoy the surroundings can make use of the tea garden.

There will be entertainment by Bobby Louw and Diana Diog, as well as music from bygone years.

A variety of games and entertainment has been organised for both children and adults and includes a talent contest which will offer our youth a chance to display their talents.

Prizes will be awarded to the winning entrants.

A large variety of vendors will provide an interesting and diverse assortment of goods on sale to the public.

As usual there will be a book sale at the Rhodes Park Library for book collectors looking for good quality books at an amazingly low price.

The association sponsors Kensington-based projects, such as PPS and Clean Village.

The fair is also a means of providing the charitable institutions of the suburb with an opportunity to gather funds for the good work they do.

Security for those attending the fair is a high priority and will be supplied by the Diligence Security Co, National Security and Fire (Pty) Ltd, Fidelity Security Services, Top Security Company and the SAPS.

The entry fees this year are R20 for adults, R10 for children and R5 for pensioners.
