In addition to opening the largest McLaren dealership on the planet, I was recently invited to gawk at a couple of McLaren arachnids, the 600LT and 720S Spider. Here are ten things you need to know about the McLaren the 600LT Spider.
- There will be just four examples of this drop-top supercar brought to local shores.
- Its 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V8 produces 441 kW and 620 N.m and is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
- Performance figures are incredible, with zero to 100 km/h coming up in 2.9 seconds, standstill to 200 km/h in 8.4 seconds and a top speed of 324 km/h, or 315 km/h with the roof down.
- The Spider is 50kg heavier than its Coupe sibling at 1 289kg, with the obvious trade-off being infinite headroom in the former.
- The 600LT and 600LT Spider are the only other McLaren production models where a customer can specify the same carbon-backed bucket seats as seen in the hypercar, McLaren Senna.
- Its folding hard-top can go up or down in just 15 seconds.
- There are three driving modes ‘Normal’, ‘Sport’ and ‘Track’.
- The ‘LT’ stands for Longtail, making the 600LT Spider the fifth car to wear this exclusive badge.
- The first customer car in South Africa (pictured) is finished in MSO Lime Green.
- The 600LT and 600LT Spider models are the only McLarens to have the top-exit dual exhaust system.
