BMW unveil the new 1 Series

The anticipated third generation of the BMW 1 Series has been unveiled.

In the front you will find a larger single frame kidney grill with three dimensional mesh fitted in between slanted headlights which also comes with optional Adaptive LED headlights.

Above the twin-exhaust pipes fitted to the four cylinder derivatives you will find slim two section rear lights. Even though the 1 Series, at 4319mm is 5mm shorter than its predecessor, rear has legroom increased by 33mm. The newcomer has also increased in width by 34mm to 1799mm which also sees the boot capacity grow from 360-Litres to 380-Litres. The wheelbase decreased by 20mm to 2670mm.

Multiple interior options include, BMW Operating System 7.0, panoramic roof, wireless charging, Digital Key and gesture control for the infotainment system.

As an alternative to the new front-wheel-drive architecture, the Munich-based automaker also offers xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive with selected derivatives. There are multiple alloy wheel options, from 16 inches up to 19 inches.

Motivation comes in two options, either a turbocharged 1,5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine coupled to a six-speed manual transmission which will produce 103 kW and 220 N.m to the front wheels. The 118i also have a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission offered as an option.

The M135i xDrive, a turbocharged 2,0-litre which will generate 225 kW and 450 N.m of torque. This, the most powerful four-cylinder unit in the BMW Group line-up will direct the power to all four wheels via an eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission also featuring launch control.

The third generation BMW 1 Series will be available in the third quarter of 2019 with pricing to be released closer to the time.
