Edenvale Festival of Lights around the corner

Now in its third year, the festival offers the perfect day out for family and friends, with more of a festive season spin this year and lots of giveaways and activities.

The excitement has been building, the countdown has begun and you are invited.

A festival that Edenvale can truly call its own, the ECID Festival of Lights and Street Carnival was instituted to bring the community together in an energetic and attractive CBD.

Enjoy a craft beer or even a cocktail in the beer garden with Roarke Lessing and Edenvale radio station Eden AM’s team.

With seating areas along the route, you can kick back and relax and enjoy the entertainment.

If you would like to jump in and tap and stomp your feet along to the riveting sounds of the Bambanani Brass Band whilst watching the swishing of The Blues drum majorettes, this is good too.

Ama 50-50 Zulu dance group intend to fill the space with their powerful traditional moves, or if it’s blues you enjoy then you can share some lazy time with Smoke & Liquid.

Sherpa Kids will look after your little ones while they enter the ECID craft competition, and remember to write on the Rawsons Wishes for Edenvale Wall.

Besides the fabulous Hyundai Snowdome, there will be jumping castles and even an inflatable climbing wall on offer thanks to Rush and Build-it Edenvale.

Children can get their faces painted, have photos taken with Santa and send their letters off to the North Pole.

Young and old will be awed by the jaw-dropping creations of the BDI street carnival troupe performers.

Enjoy a craft beer or even a cocktail in the beer garden with Edenvale radio station Eden AM’s team which will be hosting in the area.

Visit the restaurant garden with your family and relax to the smooth sounds of Thato on keyboards.

The Vynalists can be found on the Coke Truck Stage where there will also be performances including a modelling show.

And if it is Christmas shopping you would like to get sorted, then one of the many crafts stalls are sure to have something just right.

From handmade jewellery and gifts to wooden décor, tie-dye and clothing, the colourful display is a shopping haven.

Luckily there are a good few hours available, giving you a chance to try more than one culinary experience.

Take your pick from the tastes of Portugal and Mexico to a delicate plate of sushi, or why not indulge in some Thai cuisine?

You can even have the experience of Ottowa Creek Spur with kids activities and burgers, right on Van Riebeeck Avenue.

And if your sweet tooth is luring you, churros, doughnuts and ice cream, or some wonderful Mediterranean sweet treats will more than satisfy your craving.

A variety of biltong, cured meats and honey will also be available, not to mention macadamia nuts and oil, and homemade jams or pickles, to eat there or to take home

The festival takes place on Van Riebeeck Avenue from 2pm to 9pm on Saturday, November 25.
