AMA 50-50 is an energy-driven Zulu dance group which hopes to blow you away at this year’s Edenvale City Improvement District’s Festival of Lights.
The group, which was started by Thandazile Jessie Nyoka and her two daughters, now boasts ten members.
While growing up in KZN, Thandazile often joined in the dancing for their ancestors as well as at local weddings.
The group, which now performs mainly at weddings, the church and theatre, will soon be on the streets of Edenvale.
“People just love the traditional dance and outfits,” said Thandazile.
Their repertoire is a mixture of rhythmic song and dance, a lot with deep meaning.
AMA 50-50 often touches on social issues. One song asks the king to tell the people to stop killing each other while another sees a boy asking people not to tell his mom he is in jail.
Thandazile said her group is her family.
