Come sew for Thembalami in September

Rand Aid’s Thembalami Care Centre hopes to make 1 000 pillowcases and single-bed sheets at its Sew-a-thon this year.

Rand Aid’s Thembalami Care Centre hopes to make 1 000 pillowcases and single-bed sheets at its Sew-a-thon this year.

The centre regularly receives donations of linen that may have a tear or mark but are otherwise very serviceable.

This linen meant for double beds or bigger, is then cut by volunteers into pillowcases and single bed sheets, ready for stitching on Sew-a-thon Day.

Run by non-profit organisation Rand Aid Association, Thembalami is based in Lombardy-East and looks after men and women who are physically and financially vulnerable.

It also houses residents of the Max Ordman Deaf Association.

The Sew-a-thon will be held on September 30.

Members of the public with sewing machines and the will to help are asked to come along on the day and sew up the material into suitable bed linen.
