The opening night of Molière’s Tartuffe at Joburg Theatre was an event to behold, with ambassadors, celebrities and lovers of the theatre showing up in their numbers to be part of the exciting event.

Tartuffe was a famous comedy created by Molière and first performed in 1664, telling a comedic yet serious story in five acts; a story that has solidified some of the production’s roles as some of the best in classical theatre.

Enthralled and intrigued, the guests at Joburg Theatre on 1 June watched the tale of Tartuffe, also known as ‘The Hypocrite’. The guests included the French ambassador Christophe Farnaud, comedian Tracy-Lee Oliver, and major supporter of the arts through her business Buz PR, Bridget van Oerle.

Award-winning actor, writer, producer and director, Mpho Osei-Tutu noted, “You’re playing games if you don’t go see Tartuffe at Joburg Theatre on now until 25 June.”
