Sewing sisters hold raffle fundraiser

"The first name to be drawn will be called and if they do not answer we will draw another name."

The Sewing Sisters quilt group will be raffling a handmade quilt to raise funds for Reach for Recovery for Cancer.

Mrs Ria Randall, a member of the group, said each year the group tries to do a project for charity.

She said this year the group made a quilt for a single bed.

Mrs Randall said the group, which was founded four years ago, was created when a group of friends wanted to stay in contact and knit together.

They used to go for sewing lessons at Sew Heavenly until it closed.

“We enjoyed each other’s company and wanted to keep on doing projects together,” said Mrs Randall.

The group has been selling raffle tickets for the quilt they made and the draw will take place on October 8.

Mrs Randall said the winner of the draw will receive the quilt.

“The first name to be drawn will be called and if they do not answer we will draw another name,” said Mrs Randal

“We have decided to donate the money we make by selling raffle tickets to Reach for Recovery for Cancer,” Said Mrs Randall.

Mrs Randall said three quarters of the money raised will be donated to Reach for Recovery for Cancer, while one quarter will be kept for future projects.

The group meets the second Saturday of every month in Dowerglen.

Tickets for the raffle cost R10.

Mrs Randall said if people buy 10 tickets for R100 they will receive an 11th ticket free.
